"BEST YET" VERDICT ON THIRD STREET PARTY

Dove Street Party 2 - 8 p.m. Saturday 27th September 03

"Celebrating who we are and where we live"

The residents of Dove Street scored a hat trick with the late September weather at their third annual street party in 2003.

Bunting and decorations made by local children lined railings and festooned the trees again as one end of the central Bristol high rise estate was closed to traffic for the day.

Music, magic … and scary animals!

Many residents held stalls, selling bric-a-brac, cakes, books and plants.

Children were kept busy on the bouncy castle and held spellbound by the magician whilst their parents relaxed with a pint or two from the licensed bar, and once again the Bristol Zoo animals provoked thrills and squeals as partygoers got up close and personal with giant cockroaches and a tarantula!

A feast of live music was provided by Roger Tarry, Super 8, The GetOuts, and local heroes Superdog. Valerie Davey MP gave a short address, and local all-girl dance troupe The Angels drew a large and appreciative audience.

Creating community links

Organised entirely by residents, the party was made possible by funding from Greater Bristol Foundation, John James Bristol Foundation, St Monica Trust and Bristol City Council.
